5 Minutes to a Great Day

I’ve always been a big morning person and the way I start the day has always been important to me, but in the past few months I’ve modified it and perfected it just enough that it has made a huge difference in my life.

It is so completely true that “getting up on the wrong side of the bed” pretty much assures that you will have a day that isn’t wonderful. And wouldn’t it be terrific to start things out so that you are greatly increasing your chances of have a wonderful fabulous day?

Do this for 30 days and you will have a tremendous increase in:

• your energy
• your happiness level
• the way you interact with others

For everything that I’m mentioning, if you do it for 5 minutes the results will be amazing. The important thing to remember is that your goal is to wake up and stay happy as long as you can. Doing these 3 things will really help.

When you wake up, don’t stay in bed and think about things or worry about things or start trying to “figure things out”. Either go back to sleep (if you can) or decide you are waking up. Then:
1.    Pause for just a moment and think of 3 things that you are truly grateful for. Think of them and visualize them in your mind. It might be your partner (or something about your partner), your dog, your home, something about your body. It just needs to be true that you are grateful for it. Don’t make anything up.
2.    As you get up, have at least 8 oz. of water next to your bed. Drink the water and as you drink, say to yourself “I’m having a wonderful day”, “I’m having a wonderful day”, “I’m having a wonderful day”
3.    Tap the karate chop point of your left hand (that fleshy part on the side of your hand, down from your pinky finger, where you would hit if you were doing a karate chop) with the 4 fingers of your right hand and repeat 3 times: “I deeply and profoundly love, accept and respect myself just the way I am”. If you are lying next to someone, say it silently. If you can – say it out loud.

That’s it! You can do that in less than 5 minutes.

And what a difference it makes in the way you feel. You literally can carry that feeling with you for the rest of the day.
