Daisy, Our New Puppy

August 18, 2009

As many of you know, we lost our beloved dog, Emma, on May 15, 2009. She was more like a child to us. It happened so suddenly we were in shock and completely heartbroken.

daisy1We are very happy to announce that we have a new girl puppy, Daisy, born July 19, 2009. We won't be bringing her home until after our Bali trip October 3, but we are so excited and filled with anticipation. Her appearance in our lives has been quite magical and if you would like to know the whole story, here it is:

Two days after Emma's death, we connected with a pet psychic and had a “conversation” with Emma. One of the things she told us was that she would help us find our next dog. Debra was so distraught at the time that her response was, “I don't want another dog!”

One week after Emma's untimely death we were leading our group trip to Peru, which was so healing for our broken hearts. While we were in Peru, Tom did a meditation and saw Emma running ecstatically in the hills. Then suddenly, he saw a golden haired puppy running next to Emma. He received a very strong intuition that this was the puppy that Emma was bringing to us!

Immediately when we got home from Peru, Tom began a search on the Internet for golden retriever mixed breed puppies. Emma was a golden retriever/springer spaniel mix. He knew we wanted a golden retriever mix for their sweet disposition, hardiness and to avoid problems that plague some purebred retrievers such as hip dysplasia. He found a couple, Jeanne and CD, who live about 30 miles from Phoenix and breed golden retriever/yellow lab mixes. Because of the their intelligence and sweet termperament, many of the dogs are used as service dogs. The breeders' web site indicated that they had no plans to have any puppies this summer but they would have puppies late in the fall. Tom sent them an e-mail asking to be put on the fall puppy list.

In response, he got an e-mail from Jeanne, saying that as soon as they posted their summer and fall plans on the web site, there was a storm and the door to their Arizona room blew open and Honey, one of their females who was in heat, got out. Before Jeanne could get to her, Honey and her boyfriend Luke had “done the deed”. Honey is a purebred golden retriever with AKC papers. Luke is a 50/50 golden retriever, yellow lab mix. Jeanne said if Honey was pregnant, the due date would be July 20. The gestation period is exactly 60 days. so that means the door was blown open on May 21st, 5 days after Emma's death (and the day before Tom's birthday!). We think we see her hand (paw) in all this.

So, Jeanne invited us down to “Meet the Parents”, Luke and Honey, on June 26. We had so much fun petting and playing and getting licked by them. We threw balls into the pool and watched the dogs dive in to retrieve them. We still didn't know if Honey was pregnant, but we fell in love with these beautiful creatures. We told Jeanne we definitely wanted a puppy, in particular a girl. Jeanne said they had a long list and “everybody wants a girl”, but Tom kept saying he knew that everything was going to work out perfectly.

A few weeks later we got the word from Jeanne that Honey was definitely pregnant. Tom was not surprised. On July 19, we got the call that the pups had been born, a small litter of only 3 puppies - two girls and one boy. As Honey and Luke's offspring, they are 3/4 golden retriever and 1/4 yellow lab. Jeanne told us that when she sent out the word to her list, only 4 people responded that they wanted puppies right now with one of them wanting a puppy with a short coat more like a lab. All the puppies had coats more like their mom's longer coat. Of the other three, one wanted a boy and two (including us) wanted girls. Tom was right - it worked out perfectly for everyone.

So we have made the 2 hour trip to Jeanne and CD's ranch twice now to visit our little girl, and she is beyond adorable. When we were with her at 3 weeks (these are the pictures) she was licking both of us and walking to Debra when Tom started the video. We'll bring her home on October 3 when we arrive home from Bali.

Daisy At 3 Weeks

And now another fantastic thing has happened. Two days ago, Jeanne sent an e-mail saying that the people who were going to take the little boy had changed their mind. And now our dear friend Enocha Ranjita (many of you have done incredible sessions with her) is going to take him and has named him Boulder (that's another story!). So now Daisy will have her brother in Sedona to romp and play and chew things with. We are ecstatic at the prospect of all this unconditional love coming into our lives.

Boulder Takes Big Yawn

We hope you've enjoyed the pictures and video. We will be updating this section of the site as Daisy's story continues. Please sign up for the 7 Secrets To Sedona and our newsletter to be notified of these updates.

Blessings,
Tom & Debra Margrave
