The past two weeks have been pretty staggering as far as the number of people who are in the public eye who have passed away unexpectedly and before their time.
– David Bowie, amazing musician and innovator, only 69
– Alan Rickman, incredible actor (most famous for playing Proffessor Snape in the Harry Potter movies) age 69
– Dan Haggerty, who played Grizzly Adams
– Natalie Cole, fantastic singer, only 65
– Celine Dion’s beloved husband and then so tragically her brother, age 59, both died of cancer just within days of each other
But the one that has hit me the hardest is Glenn Frey of the Eagles. He was only 67. I think it hit me because I had made a decision last year to go to an Eagles concert this coming summer. I put it on my bucket list. And now it won’t happen. I waited too long. I thought I would have plenty of time.
I’m not writing about this from the standpoint of caring more about my bucket list than I care about Glenn Frey… I’m just amazed at myself that I didn’t do what I tell everyone else to do. I didn’t practice what I preach — Do the stuff you want to do and do it now, because you never know if you’ll be able to do it down the road.
I’m always saying to everyone:
– If you don’t like your life, change it.
– If you’re unhappy in your relationship, do something about it.
– If you’ve always wanted to go to Egypt, go.
– If you know you have to go to Machu Picchu in this lifetime, then start making plans!
– If you know you’re supposed to be doing something special with your life, start taking steps toward doing it!
We’ve all heard the famous quote from Einstein so many times, but it’s so true:
The definition of insanity is to keep on doing the same thing over and and over and expect a different result.
If you want things to be different in your life, you have to do something different.
If you have something that you want to do, do it now. If you don’t, it might be too late.
The fact that I won’t see the Eagles in concert might seem somewhat insignificant, but it isn’t to me. They are my 2nd favorite band of all time (second only to the Beatles, who I also never got to see). I love the Eagles. All of their songs seemed to be talking about my life right at that moment, especially Peaceful Easy Feeling and Lyin’ Eyes. When they broke up, I was devastated. When they got back together with their “Hell Freezes Over” tour, I was elated. Last year, I watched the amazing documentary History of the Eagles on HBO. It was so interesting and fabulous, I actually watched it twice.
After watching the documentary, I added to my bucket list that I was going to see them in concert.
And now it’s too late.
And it’s so jarring to me, because it seems so symbolic. My birthday was last week and I was thinking again about how precious our lives are and how crucial it is for us to be living our lives to the fullest in every moment. What a wake up call.
Are you living your life to the fullest in every moment? Are you living in joy most of the time? Are you happy with your work, your relationships, your body? Do you feel like you’re living your life purpose and soul mission? Are you doing things that make life special and enriching? Are you doing traveling you’ve been telling yourself you want to do? Are you experiencing things that are on your bucket list?
For most of the people that I talk to, the answer to that question is no. And my response is “What are you waiting for?”. If you keep telling yourself “someday”, that someday might never happen.
There is something magical that happens when you draw a line in the sand and make a decision. If there’s something you really want in your life, I invite you to draw that line in the sand right now. Make the decision. Watch how the Universe starts to help you.

We got one roommate for Peru, now we need another one (June 17-30)
Last week I told you we need a roommate for our Peru and Machu Picchu trip June 17-30. We found the roommate, but now have another person who has decided to go who needs a (female) roommate.
It’s so interesting. I received a number of emails from people who wanted to go on the trip but money was an issue. And now this week I’m writing about taking steps to live out your dreams. One of the things that has always been so interesting to me is that in all the years I’ve been doing these trips to Egypt and Peru, I’ve never had a person tell me later they wish they hadn’t gone. Instead, I still get emails or hear from people years later that the trip was something that changed their lives, they’re so happy they went, it was a dream come true and memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.
So if seeing Machu Picchu is on your bucket list, figure out a way to go. You’ll be so glad you did.
