In Praise of No Surrender

I’ve had a very tumultuous couple of weeks. Friday a week ago, I stayed up on til 2 am listening to music on my Bose headphones. I loooooove my Bose headphones and I feel like something amazing happens when you’re listening to music that way. It almost seems as if it’s sending the music (the sounds and the vibrations) directly into the right and left hemispheres of my brain and the music somehow melds and comes together in the most amazing way.
One of the songs I kept playing over and over again was Bruce Springsteen’s No Surrender (the live version). I love the lyrics so much:
Cuz we made a promise we swore we’d always remember
No retreat, baby, no surrender
Blood brothers on a summer’s night
With a vow to defend
No retreat, baby, no surrender
In one of the last newsletters I wrote that the path of unconditional love is  about you staying in the place where you stand, knowing you are in a place of being all that you are and not having the circumstances around you affect you in any way. To be so solid in who you are, having such a steady footing, that outside circumstances simply aren’t affecting you. You aren’t being knocked over every time something happens in your life.
I feel like this song embodies that. No retreat, baby, no surrender.
When we are connected, we know who we are.
When we know who we are, we have a moral compass.
When we have a moral compass, we know what we need to do in every situation.
So every crisis or difficult situation or choice or decision is always about us moving from (making decisions from) that point of connection.
There’s no question, no ambiguity. No retreat, baby, no surrender.
Now don’t confuse what I’m saying with those times when we’re being shown we have to take a different path or a different approach. Sometimes our ego (which I define as the small self that wants to keep you small) gets so attached to something or someone or to a particular outcome, that we keep holding on long past the time when we should be letting go. We keep demanding that a situation look a particular way or have a particular outcome. When we are demanding from the place of the small self, we are always in disconnection. In that situation, surrender and letting go is the answer, it is the key.
But as you read these words, I know that you know and can feel the difference between the two. The first one is about no surrender on what you know is right and comes from the Highest part of yourself. The second is letting go of an attachment or outcome which is being generated by the small self.
In EVERYTHING in our lives — whether it’s relationships, work, our bodies, money — if we’re operating from connection it’s going well. If we’re operating from fear and disconnection, it’s usually pretty terrible.
So what’s going on in your life? Your life is reflecting back to you at every moment whether you’re holding yourself in connection or disconnection. Every time, no exceptions. So how’s your reflection looking?
How’s your relationship?
How’s your work?
How’s your body?
How’s your money situation?
If you answered “it sucks” to any of the above, maybe it’s time to look at and do something about the level of disconnection that’s going on. Just a thought.
As a wise man said to me, this is not a dress rehearsal. This is it! Your life is right now! It’s not later, it’s now! Don’t surrender to keeping your life stuck – this is the only life you have and it’s happening right now. Do you want to live it from connection or disconnection? From fear and misery or love and joy? Your choice.
If you’re not living your life from connection, if you answered “it sucks” to any of the questions above, maybe the time is now to come and do a Soul Adventure with us. Click here
Wishing you a week filled with strength and resolve and connection and no retreat, baby, no surrender.
Many blessings,

Dori says her Soul Adventure did more for her than 2 years of weekly therapy and taught her to surrender (in the good way!)

“I can say without any qualms that I will not only refer my friends and family to Sedona Soul Adventures but I am making a commitment to come back-at least once a year for a spiritual tune-up. I got more assistance and much needed guidance from the majority of the practitioners that I had the honor to work with at Sedona soul Adventures than I’ve had with 2 years of weekly therapy. My soul and spirit were broken and lost…but gratefully the sessions (and the vortexes) replaced the darkness with light and opened my eyes, heart and soul to see that I have the power to accept and surrender to those powers stronger than myself; additionally, I have regained my own inner power-in actuality it is stronger than ever. Thank you for being such a caring, warm and loving Angel Guide.”
