I’m continuing my annual Thanksgiving tradition by inviting you, cajoling you and, if need be, begging you to start doing a Gratitude Journal each day.
If people like Oprah Winfrey do this, don’t you think it might be a good idea for you to consider it?
The idea is simple. Every day when you wake up, write down 3 things that you are grateful for in your life. This doesn’t have to take a long time, in fact, being brief can insure that you keep doing it every day. You can download the Gratitude Process below and it will give you the simple instructions.
The most important part is what the Gratitude Journal DOES:
• It brings you into a higher, faster vibration
• It starts your day with a feeling of well being
• It can bring you back into connection and help you maintain connection
• It can change things around with situations or people in an almost amazing way
The Gratitude Process I’ve attached recommends using if for 28 days for a particular situation. But after all these years, this is something that I do every morning. It brings everything into perspective.
And this year I want to invite you to do even more. I want you to think about spending just a few minutes in the evening before you go to sleep going over three things during your day that went well and why they went well. This process has been scientifically proven to work. It comes from the work of Martin Seligman, PhD. He reports:
“People who are grateful tend to be happier, healthier and more fulfilled. Being grateful can help people cope with stress and can even have a beneficial effect on heart rate. This action is easy to do yet its benefits have been scientifically proven. In tests, people who tried it each night for just one week were happier and less depressed one month, three months and six months later.”
Isn’t that incredible? In these tests, people who did this exercise for only a week were happier and less depressed six months later!
Dr. Seligman says he believes this works because it changes people’s focus from what went wrong to things that go well. He says that this shift in attention “breaks up depression and increases happiness”. As you all know, this is completely in line with what I am continually talking about and writing about — what we put our focus on gets bigger and creates our reality. If we focus on the negative, we get more negative. If we are focusing on what works, we get more of what works.
I also believe that doing this before you go to bed at night has an impact on your vibrational connection with All That Is. I believe that when we sleep we have the ability to connect with that Highest part of ourselves in an even bigger way than we can when we are awake.
Going into gratitude raises our vibration. By raising our vibration before we go to sleep, we increase the likelihood of truly connecting with that Highest part of ourselves during sleep.
Liz is so grateful — she says she’s “permanently changed” by her Sedona Soul Adventure
“I’m just so grateful! You gave me a framework to jumpstart the next step in my spiritual growth. The whole experience was really beautiful. I do feel that I am permanently changed for having done this. And I really hope I can join you on a Sacred Travel!” (I’m happy to report that since doing her Soul Adventure, Liz has gone with me to both Egypt and Peru!)
