“I was ready to end my life”

Over the past few months, I’ve had the joy to re-connect with Rob Wergin, one of our amazing SSA grads whose life was completely changed by coming to Sedona and doing a Soul Adventures retreat. I’m now incredibly proud to say he’s now featured as one of the amazing healers in the new documentary “Heal” (see the trailer below).
I’ll let Rob tell you:

“In February 2003, I was ready to end my life. In a last moment of “yelling at God” I asked for a message…….the message was “Go to Sedona….NOW!”

Debra answered the phone when I called Sedona Soul Adventures…..I told her I had little money and didn’t know why I was calling…………

What happened next was complete life transformation in my journey with Sedona Soul Adventures………….I was opened to who I really am, reconnected to the Divine, and stepped into the truth of who I am…..and that was in about 10 days.

In June 2003, I moved to Sedona and was honored to become a practitioner for Sedona Soul Adventures for over a year….and since then my work has exploded all over the world, working with over 80,000 souls…….

Now, in 2017, I am honored and grateful to be in the beautiful documentary film “HEAL” which just by coincidence premiered in Sedona! What a magic circle!

I am deeply grateful to Debra and Sedona Soul Adventures for launching me, way back in 2003! Please see this beautiful movie, it is inspiring and truthful and will change people’s thinking.”

In his original testimonial to us in 2003 he said:

Not only did he come back, but when he came back, it was as a full fledged healer. In Sedona, during his Soul Adventure, all of this information and energy came to him that allowed him to truly connect with the Divine and bring forth the dormant healing gifts he had. He worked with us for almost two years and did so much incredible work in our retreats.
And now he is one of the featured healers in the new documentary “Heal”, which premiered at the Illuminate Film Festival here in Sedona this past June. That’s when Rob and I re-connected and he honored me at a workshop the following day. You’ll see Rob in the trailer helping the woman who says “I don’t know who I am without being sick”.
I love this movie and I especially love the message. It features so many luminaries, such as Deepak Chopra, Gregg Braden, Marianne Williamson, Michael Beckwith, Joe Dispenza, Bruce Lipton and many others. I especially love the message of the movie and believe it completely. Some of the things they talk about in the movie (and the trailer) is that almost every illness has stress at its roots. I love the phrase that is said “Not just disease starts in the mind, EVERYTHING starts in the mind”.
One of the people talks about studying all different types of cancers and that in all of them there have been virtually spontaneous, unexplained remissions and in the cases this woman studied there were 9 different things that each case had in common in what they did to turn it around to cause the remission. Two of the nine were physical, but the other seven were emotional, mental and spiritual.
We are really starting to understand that health, happiness and well-being results from being balanced on the emotional, mental and spiritual planes more than anything else. And by spiritual, I don’t necessarily mean going to church, spirituality is about beliefs. What do you believe? Do you believe that your beliefs are creating your reality? If so, are you using your beliefs to create the reality you want?
I love what Marianne Williamson says in the trailer, “We have more faith in the power of cancer to kill us than we do in the power of infinite possibility”.
I believe in the power of infinite possibility. I watched my life change when I switched to that belief. I watched Rob’s life change when he switched to that belief. I’ve watched it happen in thousands of the people we’ve worked with over the past 15 years, because that is everything we are doing here at Sedona Soul Adventures — helping people to come into balance on all the levels — physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
The ripple effect that has come from this is really staggering. By helping Rob, we’ve now helped tens of thousands of people and with this movie, it could turn into millions of people.
But it all comes back to the purpose that I came up with 15 years ago – “Transforming Lives One Soul At A Time”. So right now I’m talking about YOU and your soul. Are you ready to heal your life? Are you ready to be the happy, contented, enthusiastic, joyful person you were meant to come to the planet to be? If you’re ready, come to Sedona. And as Rob said, “NOW!” Click here so we can connect with you.

Or if you’d prefer, call us toll-free at 1-877-204-3664 (US and Canada). For our friends outside the US and Canada call 01 928-204-5988 or click here and one of our Guides will call you.
Would you like to speak to someone today? We’re even open on Sundays, because we’re here for you.
And watch the trailer for “Heal” here.

Wishing you a week filled with healing,
Debra

Asking you to send prayers and $$ to one of our grads in flooded Houston

If you’ve been reading my newsletters, you know that 2 weeks ago I got married and went on my honeymoon and sent you newsletters chatting about my happiness and my beautiful trip with my new husband.
I received so many congratulatory emails, which was so sweet and fun, and then suddenly I read one from Teresa dePaula. She and her husband Joe had been here for a couples retreat a few months ago and it was life changing for them. I was stunned to read her email:
Dear Debra,
Thank you for the emails.
Congratulations on getting married!! BEAUTIFUL!
WE FLOODED VIA Hurricane Harvey after they released the Buffalo Bayou in Houston.
Our life changed in a day. First 3 weeks were an emotional & physical Hell; you are a walking Zombie not knowing what to do, in shock and where to live. We have 3 house dogs & it’s very difficult to find a furnished rental that accepts 3 dogs. We will be moving our third time into another friend’s home; like we are living out of a suitcase. Our rebuild has started and we hope to be back in by Dec 15; Hope. This builder is efficient – they work 6 days a week 7-5; of course he didn’t come cheap.
What clothes & shoes we saved are in a storage unit. Most everything downstairs (our master bed was down) was ruined; we had 2 ½ – 3ft in our house for 8 days of SEWAGE WATER.
I wrote Teresa back expressing my sympathy and then she sent me another email:
THANK YOU DEBRA!! And Truly I am happy for you finding your Soul Mate.
We were not allowed in our neighborhood for 6 days after flooding, once we could get in, Joe & 2 buddies canoed clothes, shoes & other out (trash pics is all our trash = 2 frigs, dishwasher, 2 sofas, 7 chairs, settee, tables, 8 pairs boots (etc..)
Pics are from when water was down 8”-10”; after we could get in.
WE ARE LUCKIER THAN THOUSANDS; WE REALIZE THAT. Many we know had 4-5 feet inside their homes; we only had 3’ max; plus we are lucky to not be in California fires.
Going thru this, I now have more compassion for ANYONE who loses their home & belongings in a Sudden Disaster, truly is your own Hell on Earth. My heart hurts for the elderly who lost their homes & for all those who have children & pets living with them. It will be years before some rebuild, if they do.
We did not furnish our house in a day and it may be a year before it’s furnished again. We even have to drain our pool, get resurfaced, etc.. It’s devastating how much you have to replace.
My car was totaled too, Joe’s was not so we are so lucky! SO MANY LOST all their autos.
THANK YOU FOR SAVING OUR MARRIAGE, WE are still using the communication skills, etc.. We lost most papers from our sessions to flood, hated losing the pic from Burning Man of the inner child in all of us.
Hugs to you!!
When I read this, it just touched my heart. I was so amazed that even with everything going on, Teresa was sending me wedding congratulations and still thanking us for saving their marriage. I started thinking how I could help. I had the idea of reaching out to YOU – our beautiful Sedona Soul Adventures family, knowing how generous and loving you all are.
I also loved the idea of you all knowing that any donations you would make would be going to one specific family and helping them directly.
So I wrote Teresa to ask her permission. She wrote back:
I’m humbled & almost embarrassed to accept any gifts, yet, at this point I have sucked up my pride & try to accept (we have received aid from family & friends).
If someone is seeking a tax deduction, our church Tallowood Baptist had 106 families that flooded. I have contacted my church to find out if there are specific families in need. 4 Tallowood Baptist members helped us pack up our house. They could put our name Teresa & Joe DePaula for Harvey Victims in the memo; then they get a tax deduction for writing to the church.
Tallowood is a multi-racial church = various cultures, we have Chinese, Hispanic, Burmese & other worships. Our Pastor is super cool (he & his wife adopted their daughter who was a Hurricane IKE/Louisiana survivor).
You all know that I have never asked you for anything like this before, but if you feel it in your heart, I would ask that you send a check for whatever feels good to you (and every $5 and $10 helps!) to:
Tallowood Church
555 Tallowood Rd.
Houston, TX 77025
In the memo write: Joe & Teresa dePaula for Harvey victims
If you can’t send money at this time, no worries, then I ask you to send love and healing energy to Joe and Teresa and all these people whose lives have been turned upside down.
Please do not send any donations to Sedona Soul Adventures, as we are not a 501(C)(3) organization and we would need to return any donations. Please send them directly to the church and then you will also receive a tax deduction. I know that this will make a difference. Thank you for your generosity.
Wishing you a week filled with generosity and love,
Debra

We helped Joe and Teresa. Let us help you

I loved it so much that even with everything that is going on with her right now, that Teresa thanked me again for saving her marriage. I went back and found the email she had sent to me in April:
THANK YOU SEDONA SOUL ADVENTURES = SAVED OUR MARRIAGE, SAVED MY HAPPINESS & SANITY, AND BROUGHT ME THE MOST JOY! MOST AMAZING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFETIME WAS THE BREATHING WITH PENNY! ALL THE COACHES I HAD ARE GIFTS FROM HEAVEN & GOD TO ME!!
I love it when we can save someone’s marriage and happiness and sanity! And that’s what happens with our Couples Retreats. Your relationship so greatly impacts your happiness and sanity, it changes everything when it’s going right.
Call and speak with one of our retreat guides. They’ll help you just like they did Teresa and Joe.

Come with us to Machu Picchu & Peru, April 14-27

“The Sedona Soul Adventures Peru Trip was AMAZING! It is my second Sedona Soul Sacred Travel trip and it, like the first to Egypt, was life changing. The magic of Machu Picchu, the peacefulness of Lake Titicaca, the energy of the Apu mountain spirits is not something you can read about – it must be experienced! On this trip, we had the privilege of being in the presence of Jorge Luis Delgado, our Peruvian Shaman and Chacaruna (bridge person – messenger of light) who is an extraordinary guide, teacher and spiritual Master. I have been on my spiritual journey for approximately 10 years now, and I have learned and experienced many things, but Jorge had an incredible way of saying thing in such simple powerful ways, it was like I was learning them again for the first time. I experienced with him the power of oral tradition – that it isn’t just the words that he spoke, but it was the energy and intention he imbued into his words that is the specialness of oral tradition. It is that energy which touches you and teaches you. He reaches you heart to heart, rather than from your mind. He led me on a Pilgrimage to my Inner Sun that deepened my commitment to a higher level of consciousness, that increased my understanding of the Cosmos and its wonder, and that fueled my desire to shine brightly in the world. I will be forever grateful for this trip and the positive impact it had on my life.”

Getting Married, Part II, second chances

Remember in last week’s newsletter I told you that I got married and I assumed it was beautiful because I had to write the newsletter before the big day? Well, I’m happy to tell you it WAS absolutely beautiful and amazing. The weather was perfect, all of my 4 brothers and my sister were there and the ceremony was fantastic! I’m now on my first honeymoon (we’re taking 2!), but I wanted to send you some of the pictures and I wanted to tell you about the beautiful toast my sister made at our second reception (we had 2!)
Here’s us in the middle of the ceremony. My two wonderful friends (and practitioners) Ranjita and Yana co-officiated the most beautiful ceremony that incorporated Native American traditions and personal stories about the two of us. We were surrounded by the beautiful red rocks of Sedona at Mariposa, one of the most beautiful spots in all of Sedona.
Lisa Dahl, the owner of Mariposa (and 4 other restaurants in Sedona) was so gracious to let us have the wedding here, even though they typically don’t do that. Lisa allowed us to have 40 people at Mariposa, but that wasn’t enough for the entire celebration so we had another reception later that evening at the Rooftop at Sedona Rouge with over 100 people, including all my practitioners. Rather than having a cake, my dear friend Sylvia sent me a picture of cupcakes and I loved it. Here we are starting to cut the cake.
Richard’s brother Rob (his best man, in the red bow tie) gave a beautiful toast at the first reception and my sister Casey gave a beautiful toast at the second reception (see the resemblance?). In her toast she talked about that this was not the first rodeo for either Richard or me and that there are lots of famous people and wonderful situations that didn’t work out the first go around, but needed more than one try. Here’s her toast –
Top Ten People Who Needed a Few
Tries Before Achieving Success
#10 – Thomas Edison made over 10,000 attempts to perfect the light bulb. When asked about his repeated failure he said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
#9 – After Fred Astaire’s first screen test in 1933, the memo from the casting director at MGM read: “Can’t act. Can’t sing. Slightly bald. Can dance a little.”
# 8 – Emily Dickinson had only 7 poems published in her lifetime.
#7 – Bill Wilson, one of the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, relapsed at least 5 times before achieving sobriety for the rest of his life.
#6 – R.H. Macy failed 7 times before his idea for a department store caught on.
#5 – Steve Jobs originally went to Atari and said “Hey we’ve got this amazing thing, even built with some of your parts, what do you think about funding us?” They said no. Then he went to Hewlett Packard and they said “Hey we don’t need you. You haven’t even graduated from college yet.” Then he founded Apple.
#4 – The Wright Brothers experimented for years and conducted 100’s of glider tests before achieving 20 seconds of sustained powered flight.
#3 – J.K. Rowling’s book about a boy wizard was rejected by 12 publishers before little known Bloomsbury Publishing picked up Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
#2 – The Chicago Cubs, the baseball team beloved by our father, went 107 seasons before winning the 2016 World Series.
And the #1 Person Who Needed a Few Tries Before Achieving Success – Debra Stangl married before honorable men who were no match for her passion, intelligence and lust for life. On October 7, 2017 at 3:00 pm that all changed. We’re so happy to welcome Richard into our family and to watch him make Debra so happy.
Is that the best? And it’s so true – I feel so completely blessed to have this “do over” at happiness. I think sometimes we think that when we get to a certain point in our lives, that it’s over, it’s too late, we’re stuck with what we have. I’m proof that’s not true. Lasting love, true happiness and real transformation can come to us at any age and at any time. I told you last week how improbable it was that Richard and I came together how and when we did. It’s never over til it’s over.
If you want to try to take another shot again at life – at love, at happiness, at transformation — I want to remind you that it’s not too late. You don’t have to “settle” for what you have, things can change in an instant like they did for me.
Connect with us and speak with one of our Guides. They’ll dig deep to get at what’s holding you back, they they’ll design the retreat that’s perfect for you and your situation.

I got married yesterday!

I got married yesterday in the beautiful Red Rocks of Sedona. My whole family was there and it was so incredibly beautiful. At least, I’m assuming it was. I wrote this on Wednesday because I won’t have any time to write this once everyone starts arriving on Thursday. This photo was taken at our photo shoot on Thursday out in the beautiful Red Rocks of Sedona. (Cathedral Rock, to be precise)
But the part I can say without any question is how amazed and surprised and happy I am about everything and how incredible this whole thing has been. And I have to say it’s all because of Sedona Soul Adventures that this thing has happened at all.
After my divorce 7 years ago, I was hurting and really at a low point in my life. I was amazed that even after all the spiritual work I’ve done over the years, I was still having feelings of “not enough”. I was having thoughts of “is there something wrong with me?”, “why wasn’t I able to make the marriage work?” and all that stinkin’ thinkin’ that goes with all that. I was stunned, because I thought I had dealt with all that sort of stuff a long time ago.
But you know, these core wounds run deep. They go back to our childhoods and some threads are even deeper than that, going back to past lives and beyond. Luckily for me, I had my amazing practitioners to help me. I practice what I preach. I know from 15 years with Sedona Soul Adventures that everything can be turned around. It’s not necessary to stay stuck or to stay unhappy. So I dove in, just like I tell people who come to do a Soul Adventure to do.
I discovered I still had some deep wounds from my childhood and from my past marriage. Isn’t it so interesting how that stuff just comes out in layers? Think onions… and, at each layer one cries from the release of that stuck energy of the past. I did a number of very intense sessions with many of my practitioners, some of the deepest work I’ve ever done in my life. It was so liberating to come out of the other end of that.
But the best part was that I emerged from all that happy and whole (not perfect (we never reach that), but grounded and secure in the knowledge that I WAS enough). And I see now that’s what set everything in motion for love to come back into my life. If Richard and I had connected 7 years ago, I’m sure this wouldn’t have worked out. I just wasn’t in the space that you need to be in for a healthy relationship to come in and stay.
But when we connected, we were both in that happy and whole space. And it’s so interesting to me, that Richard and I should never have connected in the first place. We both had been on Match.com for a long time and I had made the decision over 2 years ago that if someone contacted me who was more than a two hour drive away that I wasn’t interested. I had done a long distance relationship 3 years ago and it was just too difficult. So if someone contacted me who was far away, I simply wouldn’t respond to them. At first that felt a little rude, but if I did respond to people that I wasn’t interested in a long distance relationship, that would always start this back and forth of them saying, “Oh come on”, “we can make it work”, etc. So I just didn’t respond at all, because it avoided all that.
Then last year I was sitting in the Hotel Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica with my sister watching another gorgeous Southern California sunset and drinking champagne. We were celebrating my book having reached Amazon #1 Bestseller, plus my sister loves sunsets. Suddenly I got a ping on my phone from Match. Richard had seen me on Match and he “liked” me. I saw his picture and his beautiful blue eyes and then I read his profile. I loved what I saw, especially the way he spoke about his work and when he was speaking about his spiritual life and how important that was to him, I had a real reaction. But then I saw that he was from San Jose, California and my heart sank. I showed his picture to my sister and she said, “cute!”. I thought to myself, “this one I’m not going to be rude to” and I wrote him a message that said “you look great, but you’re in San Jose”. I thought that would be the end of it.
Instead, he wrote back, “I know, I saw the potentially insurmountable distance. But I saw your picture and I see what you’re doing in the world and I just want you to know there’s someone out here who appreciates who you are”.
Wow.
I showed his response to my sister and she said “Good answer!”.
We texted back and forth a little and then I told him I was visiting my family and we should talk next week. He called me the following week and that started the talking and texting and Skyping that went on for six weeks before he came to Sedona to visit me. Shortly after we were together for the first time, he wrote a poem called “735”, because it’s 735 miles between San Jose and Sedona. We read the poem at our wedding. He’s given me permission to share it with you.
735
Seven-hundred-thirty-five miles is a long way
They said
To travel so far to meet her
I was reminded that after hundreds of lifetimes
With and without her
With a hundred decades between our last love meeting
We have both come so far on our separate paths
Weaving, bobbing in-and-out of our crusted, heavy worlds
Falling, rising, drowning in our own lives only to surface again
To find each other
Finally
Deeply
Forever, again
735 miles was nothing
I feel so blessed. I feel so happy. I’m so full of love that I want everyone to have that and share it. One of our gifts from my bridal shower was a couples massage and we did that last Tuesday. As I was leaving, one of the women there who had been helping us all evening said to me “I wish you every happiness and you give me hope that I could find a relationship again”. It’s been so amazing how many people have said that to both of us and we love that so much. We want to give people that hope. We feel blessed to be able to inspire others to reach for their heart’s desire.
Whether you’re looking for love or for happiness and wholeness, please do something to make that happen. Do what I did – come here and work with our practitioners. They are masters and they can help you.

Join Richard and I (and Jorge Luis Delgado) in Machu Picchu and other Sacred Sites of Peru April 14-27

One of the most fun things that’s happened in the past year is having Richard go with me to Peru on our last trip. Here we are at Machu Picchu and then here is the whole group.
What a fabulous time we had and how wonderful it is to travel to these amazing places with incredible people.
And to be in the presence of our incredible guide and shaman, Jorge Luis Delgado. He is with us the entire time, teaching us the ways of the shaman and doing ceremonies. I believe Jorge is one of the most important teachers on the planet right now. So many people tell me they feel sorry for people who go to Machu Picchu and Peru without Jorge – it’s just not the same experience.

If Machu Picchu is on your bucket list, come with us on this trip of a lifetime.
If you have any questions, please send me an email at: [email protected]

Announcing our Peru trip April 14-27 – Changes at Machu Picchu

“The Peru trip was the best experience I have ever had.”
– Kerry Grant
That pretty much sums it up. The Peru trip is amazing and fantastic and wonderful and incredible. Each year I struggle with trying to find the words that will truly convey all that it is and I feel like I never truly capture it, because it is so incredibly amazing.
“The trip to Peru was beyond all expectations”
– Laura McAllister
Why is it so fantastic? Here are just a few of the reasons:

  • Jorge – We are in Peru for 2 weeks with our incredible shaman and guide, Jorge Luis Delgado. Every year people say that they feel sorry for people who go to Peru without being with Jorge. It’s just not the same experience.
  • Life changing – The ceremonies, being with Jorge, being with other like-minded people, is transformational and life changing.
  • Everything is taken care of for you. I’ve been doing this trip since 2004 and I have to say, it’s pretty much perfect. We have everything meticulously planned and flawlessly executed. You don’t have to think about anything, just the transformations you’re having. We handle everything else.
  • Traveling with other like-minded adventurers adds such a depth to this trip, making friendships that last a lifetime.
  • We see parts of Peru that other tourists don’t see. We see the important places in Peru — Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo, Lake Titicaca, Pisac, the Sacred Valley — but Jorge also takes us to out of the way places that the typical tourist doesn’t see. In particular the Doorway of Aramu Muru, which was discovered by Jorge (and which he discusses in his book “Andean Awakenings”).
  • We are at Machu Picchu for three days – this is important because of the changes. So many other tours only go to Machu Picchu for one day, which I find totally amazing. They take the train, run around for a few hours and leave. Let me tell you, that is not the way to experience Machu Picchu.

The fact that we’re there for three days has become even more important because of changes they’ve initiated this year. Before July 1, your ticket allowed you to be at Machu Picchu all day. Now, the Peruvian government has changed it so that you are there in the morning or the afternoon, you are not allowed to be there all day. The government has changed it so that twice the number of people will be going to Machu Picchu.
On our tour the first day we will be there for the afternoon. The next day, we will get up at dawn to be there at 6 am so that we can do sunrise ceremony. The next day we will also get up as early as possible so that we can spend the entire morning there. We want everyone to be able to luxuriate in their experience of Machu Picchu.
“My trip to Peru was a life altering experience. I laughed, I cried, I experienced new dimensions.”
– Laura McConnell
So please join me on this trip of a lifetime.

Linda says “the entire Peru trip was fantastic”, “the best of all possible worlds”

“The entire Peru trip was fantastic, I would recommend it to anybody if they want to go to Peru, this is the kind of vacation to take. In the future I won’t be able to travel any other way — it’s so much more meaningful to bond with the group, sharing a spiritual purpose, with a wonderful guide. You have the best of all possible worlds, all your daily needs met, no worries about train schedules or hotel reservations, and the benefit of a guide that is supporting your spiritual path. I didn’t want to leave Machu Picchu…”
