Two Ways to Return to Egypt With Us in 2027
I don't share a blog post like this often. Today I have two journeys to tell you about — one that will only happen once in our lifetimes, and one that I've been leading every year since 2004. Both are Egypt. Both are in 2027. And both are now open.
Every Egypt trip I've run since COVID has sold out.
I don't expect either of these to be different — if anything, I'd expect them to move faster.
Let me start with the one I've never been able to offer before.
The Total Solar Eclipse Journey — August 2027
On August 2, 2027, we'll be in Luxor as the sun disappears.
For 6 minutes and 23 seconds, the sky over ancient Egypt goes completely dark — the longest total solar eclipse anywhere on land until the year 2114.
If you've never witnessed a total eclipse, there's truly nothing else like it. Richard and I have experienced two together, and this will be our third.
It isn't the sun gradually dimming the way you might picture.
In the final moments before totality, the temperature drops. Birds fall silent, convinced night has come early.
And then, all at once, the sun disappears completely — not dimmed, gone — and for those few minutes you can see stars in the middle of the afternoon sky, with a ring of pure light burning around the edge of a perfectly black sun.
People who've experienced it often say it's one of the most overwhelming things they've ever witnessed — and it certainly was for both of us.
I have been going to Egypt for over 40 years. I will never be able to offer this again.
We've chartered a private yacht — just 10 cabins, ours alone, no other passengers, no other tour group on the deck at sunset. When we're in Cairo, we're staying at The Four Seasons First Residence.

The pricing is tiered, and it rises as cabins fill. As you'd expect, everything in Egypt costs more for this — availability along the path of totality has been sold out for well over a year, and we count ourselves lucky to have secured these amazing arrangements.
