They Didn't Let It Drown

Return to Egypt — Sacred VIP Tour  │  February 15–28, 2027

When Egypt built the great dam at Aswan, everyone knew what was going to happen next. The water behind it was going to rise, and temples that had stood beside the Nile for thousands of years were going to go under it.

They could have let them go. It would have been the easy thing to do.

Instead they took them apart. At Abu Simbel, the great temple of Ramses II was cut into enormous blocks, carried up to higher ground, and put back together again piece by piece, in a rescue effort that took four years and help from something like fifty countries (including the United States – Jackie Kennedy was very involved in helping to get the funds). The Temple of Isis at Philae was moved the same way, to keep it out of the floodwaters, and rebuilt on an island where it still stands today. When we walk up to them now they look like they have always been right there. It’s impossible to tell that they were dismantled and put back together.

I think about that every time I'm there. Somebody looked at something that was about to be lost and decided it was worth all of that trouble rather than walking away from it. How often do any of us do that?

There’s a fascinating book about the French woman, an archeologist, who was the driving force behind the effort - Empress of the Nile: The Daredevil Archaeologist Who Saved Egypt's Ancient Temples from Destruction, by Lynne Olsen.

Look at that photo. Can you imagine letting that be lost?

We spend two days inside these incredible temples in February. On February 25, we take a boat out to Philae early in the morning to be with Isis, the Divine Feminine, before we go see the Unfinished Obelisk still lying in the quarry where they abandoned it. And on February 26 we travel deep into the southern desert to stand in front of the four seated statues of Ramses II at Abu Simbel, and then the Temple of Nefertari right beside it...  It does something to me every single time.

This February will be my 27th trip, and we keep it to 22 people, because ceremony inside a chamber only works when the room is small enough to hold everyone in it. Every one of our trips in recent years has sold out.

Everything is on the page below, including how to reserve your place.

Why Did One Little Comment Ruin My Whole Night?

(Based in part on Chapter 2 of our new book, High-Vibe Relationship — coming soon)

Have you ever asked yourself, "Why did one little comment just ruin my whole night?"

One woman, we'll call her Emily, was sitting with us describing how much she loved her husband. Then he mentioned, in a completely offhand way, that she never helped with the bills, and her whole body changed. Her face flushed, her jaw tightened, her voice went up. She wasn't hearing her husband anymore, she was hearing her father, who had told her over and over that she was worthless and would never succeed.

A man we'll call James did something that looked like the opposite. The moment his wife's voice rose, he shut down. She wasn't yelling, she was just animated and passionate, but his father's rages had been volcanic and unpredictable, and his nervous system read danger. His eyes went glassy, his shoulders dropped, and he went somewhere inside himself where nobody could reach him. She thought he was ignoring her, when really his body had just slammed on the brakes.

And this is what makes it feel so unfair. The grocery clerk restocking the potatoes doesn't have the power to set that off in you, and neither does your coworker in the lunchroom, but your partner does. Your partner has the access code to the most tender places you've got, which is exactly why they can hurt you more than anyone else, and exactly why they are the one who can help you heal it.

The hurt isn't new — it was already in there, and love is just the thing that brings it up to where you can finally see it.

For 20 years as a divorce attorney I watched what most people do when that happens, which is what seems like the sensible thing: they get out. I had clients I divorced two and even three times, each time from a different person, and if you looked closely it was never really a different marriage, it was the same one with a new face across the table, because you can leave the marriage but you take yourself with you.

Now, I’m not saying you should stay in a marriage that is truly wrong for you. I didn’t. And it isn’t your fault when your partner hits a nerve, because that nerve was there years before they ever showed up. But when the same thing keeps happening with a different person across the table, leaving isn’t going to fix it. The old hurt underneath can be healed, though, and I have watched it happen over and over.

That is the work we do here, with over 50 Master Practitioners and a retreat custom-designed around exactly where the two of you are — finding the old gunk underneath the reaction and clearing it out, so it isn't ruining your evenings anymore.

It starts with about an hour on the phone with one of our Soul Guides. They listen to what's really going on between the two of you, and if a retreat is right for you, they design one around it.
