3 tips on how to not gain weight this Thanksgiving

I love Thanksgiving, especially because I love to eat. It’s the one holiday that just completely revolves around food!
Many of you know that I struggled with my weight my entire life. I was a ballet dancer starting at age 3, I remember my body being criticized at age 8 and I was put on my first diet at age 12 (even though I look back at pictures of myself and I was not fat!)
Those of you who have been reading this newsletter for awhile also know that I believe in and teach about Creating Your Own Reality – what we think about we get more of, what we focus on expands.
So you can imagine, that all that attention on my body and weight (by my dance teachers, my mother and fellow ballerinas) resulted in one thing – I started gaining weight! I expanded! It was a self fulfilling prophecy!
It wasn’t until I came to Sedona and changed everything about my life that things started changing with my body. I tell the whole story in my new book that’s coming out, but basically when I gave up the fight, I released the weight. One day I suddenly said “I’m done”. I’m done with the crazy dieting and the manic working out. I thought I would balloon to 250 pounds. Instead, I lost 40 pounds without diet or exercise and I now eat whatever I want whenever I want it (as I’m writing this, I just finished a venti cappuccino and chocolate croissant – yum!).
Everything is all about energy — that includes our bodies, money, relationships, everything. The energy of the situation defines what is happening and what will happen. When I was so consumed about losing weight it made it harder and harder to lose weight. When I thought I was fat, I was fat. When I finally changed the energy around, everything changed.
If food and eating and exercising and dieting are issues for you, I want to give you 3 tips that could start helping you right now and can really help during the eating marathon that is Thanksgiving. They are simple, but incredibly powerful. And if you do them, I think you will be astounded at what can happen in a short period of time.
Decide to do these just for the Thanksgiving week-end. It makes your brain go on overload if you decide “I’m doing this for the rest of my life”. Try these just for the long Thanksgiving week-end (Thursday through Sunday) and see how you feel by the end of that time. After that, you can decide how you want to continue.
1. Decide (just for the week-end) to start Loving Your Body
This is simple, but not easy. Most of us are so judgmental and critical about our bodies and I will tell you, my friend, this is what’s creating all the resistance and all the trouble. Decide just for these 4 days that you are going to not think bad thoughts about your body or say bad things about your body, but instead be grateful for your body for all the things it does for you. Your heart pumps blood, you’re able to digest all this glorious food and you’re able to see how beautiful the world is. This one shift can change everything.
2. Decide (just for the Thanksgiving week-end) to stop talking about how fattening everything is and how unhealthy everything is
It absolutely amazes me how much time and energy people spend talking about how fattening and unhealthy everything is. Decide you aren’t going to go there. Decide to be grateful for how wonderful everything tastes, how yummy and delicious it is. If other people start talking about it, you be the one to say, “but it tastes so good!” My grandmother Stangl had the most wonderful Thanksgivings, she made the most incredible pies. She ate red meat, lard, drank coffee all day long and she lived to be 108!
3. Decide (just for the Thanksgiving week-end) that you don’t care at all about gaining weight
This is the trickiest and craziest one. What I have found in the past 8 years (since all this changed for me) is that when I stopped caring about losing weight, that’s when I lost weight! The more manic we are about something, the more the energy stays stuck and it can’t move. The energy shifts when we shift. Be grateful for all this food. Be grateful that you have plenty to eat. Be grateful that there are so many wonderful things in your life. Focus on all the good things you have in your life and it’s amazing how the energy starts to shift.
The other crazy thing that starts happening when the energy starts to shift is that you’ll find you are feeling fuller faster and you won’t even want to overeat. Before, when I would allow myself to eat something, I would always eat the entire thing and would probably lick the plate. Now, that I’m not all manic about it, I eat until I feel full and I just naturally stop. There is no self control involved, I eat what I want until I don’t want to eat anymore.
And I’m so grateful!

Amberly says that “miracles and shifts” have happened after her Sedona Soul Adventures retreat
“Sedona Soul Adventures is amazing. They have truly thought of everything to make it a seamless transition from the chaos of everyday to the bliss of the red rocks. Each one of my healers I felt a deep connection to but more importantly they allowed me to remember who I really am and the power that I truly possess. During my 3 day journey I realized how to tune back into my higher self and hone my strength and brighten my light. I am taking the time to “be” instead of “do” and allowing the God force within me to do the heavy lifting. Miracles and shifts have happened both large and small since I have been home and I am working each day to keep that bliss alive.”
