This Is Why I Watch It’s a Wonderful Life Every Christmas

Merry Christmas! Almost.
Wow… here we are again.

Every year at this time, I say the same thing to everyone I love, everyone I work with, and honestly -- anyone who will listen: 

Please. Please. Please.
Watch It’s a Wonderful Life this Christmas.

Yes, the old black-and-white movie with Jimmy Stewart.

Because this movie is about second chances.
And I don’t mean the kind that come neatly wrapped. I mean the kind you only recognize when you’re right on the edge of giving up.

It’s the most beautiful parable of how fast a life can shift, from resentment to gratitude, from despair to love, from “my life doesn’t matter” to “oh my God… it does.” And nothing on the outside changes. Only perspective.

This past year, I read Frank Capra’s autobiography, The Name Above the Title. Capra, the director, wrote about It’s a Wonderful Life as one of the most meaningful films of his life. He didn’t see it as entertainment. He saw it as a reminder. A reminder that ordinary lives matter. That kindness ripples. That when we lose sight of our value, it doesn’t mean it’s gone -- it just means we’ve forgotten.

That theme hit me hard.

Because real happiness has never come from having a “big” life. It comes from living a life that matters. A life with love, connection, contribution...and the courage to see it clearly. And so often, the only thing required is a shift in how we’re looking at it. Exactly like George Bailey does.

I made a short, sweet video about this movie and why it still moves me so deeply. I hope you’ll watch it -- and then watch the film.
