Saying “Goodbye” to Our Sweet Missy, I’m Heartbroken

August 2, 2025

Our sweet Labradoodle, Missy, crossed over the rainbow bridge this past week and we are just so sad. The next day would have been her 17th birthday. She was an amazing dog and I loved her so much. Richard and I are heartbroken.

Richard first saw Missy when she was 4 weeks old and it was love at first sight. When Richard and I came together and we would talk on Skype (it was Skype back then and he was in San Jose, California), he would hold her up to the camera so I could see her and say hi. She was a pistol!

Saying “goodbye” to our sweet Missy, I'm heartbroken

When we got together, Richard had Missy and Prancer and I had my beautiful Golden Retriever, Daisy, and my wonderful Katie Kat. After we decided to get married and Richard was getting ready to move to Sedona, we connected with our pet psychic, trying to be good "parents" helping the "kids" adjust to our new blended home. Sharon said, "Missy and Prancer, you know Debra; Daisy and Katie Kat, you know Richard; they are going to get married and Richard, Missy, and Prancer are going to move to Sedona." Missy replied, "We know, we've already been talking!" I told you she was a pistol!

One of the times I went to visit Richard in California before we got married, we went to the beach with his son and with Missy and Prancer, his Goldendoodles. He told me, "Prancer will run up and down the beach but little Missy is very intimidated by the waves, so she'll just stick with us."

Instead, the minute we got there, Missy started running up and down the beach, even playing with the surf. It was incredible and Richard was shocked.

When we were on that call with our pet psychic, Richard asked Missy what had happened that day at the beach and she said, "Being around Debra has made me feel strong; I've always just been around you and Prancer [a male] and Debra makes my girl power come out!" Wow! Missy, I'm so honored I had that effect on you!

It's so incredible to me that when Richard and I got together, we had four fur babies -- and now they're all gone. And each time is more heart wrenching than the last.

After Daisy passed in 2019, Missy let us know that she loved being our only four legged and being the Queen of the house. Then a year later, one of our friends suddenly told us they were getting a Goldendoodle puppy and there was one more puppy available. We checked in with Missy to make sure that this was okay and she said it was, as long as she could play with his toys first!

That's how Beauregard came into our lives and oh my goodness, Beau has adored Missy from day one. What a couple of cuties.

We've been preparing for this for the past few months, but you're never really ready, are you? It's just so heartwrenching. And my heart is doubly hurting to see Richard missing his beloved little girl so much. This photo was from about six months ago:

Richard & Missy

Our four legged friends are such a blessing. They are their own little beings, with the most amazing personalities and such a deep capacity for love. They bring us such joy and it’s so painful when they leave.

I love you, Missy, you were such a huge part of my life. Thank you for coming into my life and being with me. I will never forget you.

Wishing you a week filled with heart-bursting love!
