Commitment, miracles, and coming unstuck

I received the most beautiful hand-written note from someone who just completed a Soul Adventure. (I love it when I get hand-written notes, very few people do that anymore). I want to share it with you because it was so beautiful, but also because it just shows how commitment can lead to miracles. Here’s Andrew’s note:
“Beautiful Debra,
(how can you not love a message that starts out like that?!?)
How can words even capture the scope of all that I experienced during my Sedona Soul Adventure! When I decided to begin my Journey, I didn’t have the money, I was confused, and my life just felt stuck. But I embarked into the unknown and booked my retreat anyway. Once I did, everything simply began to shift in a miraculous manner to completely open the way. My brother even gifted me the money to fund my entire trip!
Every practitioner that I shared time with was so generous and professional. But more than that, each one just radiated a beauty that was the embodiment of love – both through their work and their individual connection with me. The personal itinerary that my Angel Guide created for me could not have been any more perfect. Each session built upon the previous one, culminating into a masterpiece of spiritual fulfillment. Upon completion of my soul adventure, I feel a freedom, a connection, a balance, and a clarity of purpose that I have never felt before!
What you have put together here is simply magical and has inspired me to listen more intently to my inner guidance. I can now trust my spiritual guides to support me, and my heart has never felt more free to love. Thank you for everything!”

After I received his beautiful note, I spoke with Andrew on the phone. He’d been home about two weeks and there had been some challenges after he got home but he felt that the tools he received during his Soul Adventure allowed him to sail through the challenges easily and gracefully. Even better, he said he felt that a new life path, a new Soul Purpose, which had made an appearance during his Soul Adventure, had found its way to him in the two weeks since he’d been home and things were already moving quickly in that new direction!
I love two things about this especially:
First, that when he first contacted us, Andrew couldn’t see how he could do this. He couldn’t afford it, but he knew he had to do it and once he booked the retreat (made the commitment), out of the blue his brother decided to gift him with the entire cost of his retreat. We see this over and over again, that once you make the commitment (Yes! Somehow I’m going to do this!), almost magical things start to happen.
Goethe (the German philosopher) once said,
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.”
Haven’t you found that to be true in your own life? It’s certainly been true in my own life. When I first came to Sedona in January, 1999, I felt completely stuck (as did Andrew). I had just started my 20th year of law practice and I was miserable. I was a divorce attorney, had 175 active cases, was working 60-70 hours per week and although I loved the part where I was helping my clients, I hated the constant battling with other attorneys and continually fighting the system. And, of course, all my clients were at an all time low in their lives.
Although my practice had been lucrative, in the past few years some very strange circumstances occurred where I suddenly found myself $50,000 in debt. No matter how hard I worked I couldn’t seem to erase that debt.
In January, 1999, I really reached a point of feeling in complete despair. Completely stuck. I knew I had to do something. I did a session with an energy worker in Omaha, Nebraska (where I lived) and the message came through that I was supposed to go to Sedona.
Of course, the last thing I should have been spending money on was a retreat. But I somehow knew I had to do this.
I came to Sedona for what I thought would be just 3 days of being quiet. But I decided to do one session (with Ranjita, who has now become one of our most valued practitioners) and my High Self came in and said that I must leave my law practice now or I was going to die.
How could I possibly do that when I was $50,000 in debt?
After returning from Sedona I spent two weeks trying to figure out (with my lawyer brain), how I could leave my practice. Finally, I just threw up my hands and said, “God, I know I have to do this, but I need some help”. Less than 8 hours later, one of my former clients called. He told me he had just purchased a company that refinanced mortgages. I asked him if he thought I could refinance. He called me back 10 minutes later and said, “I can cut your mortgage payment in half, and I can get you $50,000 in cash”. I hadn’t told him I was $50,000 in debt.
Within less than 8 hours, this burden that had hung around my neck for years was gone. I made the commitment (“Yes, I don’t know how, but I’m going to leave my law practice”) and the Universe swooped in and handled everything that I hadn’t been able to figure out on my own.
The other part I love about Andrew’s experience is that coming to Sedona and doing the retreat gave Andrew “freedom, a connection, a balance, and a clarity of purpose” that he has never felt before. Think about it – isn’t that what we’re all looking for?

When we spoke on the phone, Andrew told me he knows he’s on the right path. Things just keep lighting up to show him the way. He’s listening to his inner guidance and he has no doubts. And that’s what happens when you’re operating from connection and balance and clarity of purpose.
I knew I had to change my life when I got back from Sedona and that ultimately led to the founding of Sedona Soul Adventures 3 years later. I’m so very happy and grateful that I went on the trip to Sedona that I couldn’t afford!
